Mogliano-based brand Bottega Intreccio aims to bridge old and new by recruiting a rotating cast of young design talent to collaborate with their master artisans, who are experts at the Renaissance-era craft of intreccio weaving. For the brand’s first lighting collection, they partnered with Maurizio Bernabei, a fellow innovator from Italy’s Marche region.
An architect who later received a master’s degree in industrial design from Milan’s Scuola Politecnica, Bernabei works at retail furniture specialist HMY Group while simultaneously collaborating on special-edition designs with European brands. His creations range from playful kitchenware to modernist sinks to a buzzy collection of seating for office waiting rooms dubbed #waitingfor. The Viceversa Pendant he designed for Bottega Intreccio’s Carraterri lighting collection was a 2018 Wallpaper* Design Awards winner.
