Cocolla Pendant

The Cocolla Pendant

It takes 6.5 hours of skillful weaving using a centuries-old technique known as intreccio to create the bell-shaped Cocolla Pendant, which consists of a tiered, conical top that protracts outward into a wide circular base. The architectural lines of the design create an unexpected pairing with the 165 meters of wicker from which the fixture is fashioned. Turn up the surprise factor by opting for one of the several colors in which this pendant lamp is available, or lean into its minimalist lines by forgoing paint or lacquer and selecting a natural finish.

Designer

Mogliano-based brand Bottega Intreccio aims to bridge old and new by recruiting a rotating cast of young design talent to collaborate with their master artisans, who are experts at the Renaissance-era craft of intreccio weaving. For the brand’s first lighting collection, they partnered with Maurizio Bernabei, a fellow innovator from Italy’s Marche region. An architect who later received a master’s degree in industrial design from Milan’s Scuola Politecnica, Bernabei works at retail furniture specialist HMY Group while simultaneously collaborating on special-edition designs with European brands. His creations range from playful kitchenware to modernist sinks to a buzzy collection of seating for office waiting rooms dubbed #waitingfor. The Viceversa Pendant he designed for Bottega Intreccio’s Carraterri lighting collection was a 2018 Wallpaper* Design Awards winner.
