Seia 35 Pendant

A slim hanging light available in bright colors, natural finishes or traditional lacquers, the Seia 35 Pendant by Bottega Intreccio injects artistry and texture into a space. Its conical shade is handcrafted from 35 meters of bamboo wicker in the Italian village of Mogliano, by master artisans using a Renaissance-era weaving technique known as intreccio. Though it possesses a sculptural simplicity that can certainly stand on its own, it’s easy to make the case that the Seia 35 deserves company. Hang several in a row at varying lengths, or pair this small pendant with larger designs from the Caratteri collection, which all echo and build upon the conical motif.

Mogliano-based brand Bottega Intreccio aims to bridge old and new by recruiting a rotating cast of young design talent to collaborate with their master artisans, who are experts at the Renaissance-era craft of intreccio weaving. For the brand’s first lighting collection, they partnered with Maurizio Bernabei, a fellow innovator from Italy’s Marche region. An architect who later received a master’s degree in industrial design from Milan’s Scuola Politecnica, Bernabei works at retail furniture specialist HMY Group while simultaneously collaborating on special-edition designs with European brands. His creations range from playful kitchenware to modernist sinks to a buzzy collection of seating for office waiting rooms dubbed #waitingfor. The Viceversa Pendant he designed for Bottega Intreccio’s Carraterri lighting collection was a 2018 Wallpaper* Design Awards winner.
