May is the month for tradeshow mania and we’re in the thick of it at Global Lighting! We have trips to Las Vegas, to exhibit during the HD Expo show from May 4 through 6, in the works, as well as a quick trip to Miami to cover M&O Americas from May 10 to 13. Then we’ll be trekking to the Javits Center in New York City where two of our brands will be showing during the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) from May 14 through 17.
In the Thick of Tradeshow Mania
Here’s the snapshot of the products we will be showing where. If you are attending HD Expo and/or ICFF, please stop by and say hello. If you’re making your way to Miami for M&O Americas, we hope you’ll share your favorite finds with us via social media as we’re making the rounds to get the scoop on what’s new.
Our booth number at HD Expo is 14109-E, where we’ll have the Mrs.Q and the Benben, both by Jacco Maris, on view, along with Zero’s RGB table lamp. The show takes place at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center so stop by and say hello if you attend.
The Miami Beach Convention Center will hold the action brought to the shores of South Beach and we’ll be combing the halls for fabulous finds! We dished about the M&O Americas Designer of the Year Rafael de Cardenas in an earlier post here on the blog and we are looking forward to catching up with the founder of Architecture at Large to hear what he has to say about what he’s seeing as the latest trends in design and architecture.
International Contemporary Furniture Fair
Both Northern and Secto Design will be showing new products at ICFF from May 14 through 17 at the Javits Center in New York.
Northern at ICFF
Oslo-based Northern (Booth 926) creates products in collaboration with designers, tastemakers and innovators around the world. Their designs, guided by Scandinavian simplicity and the ever-changing character of the Nordic light, will be included in the Insidenorway exhibition at ICFF. They will be introducing the Birdy wall fixture and floor lamp, the Say My Name pendant and table lamp, and the Buddy table lamp to the American market for the first time.
The Birdy floor and table lamps, designed by Birger Dahl in 1952, were awarded the highly esteemed Golden Medal at the Milan Triennale. When Northern reintroduced this design classic, care was taken to preserve the original shape and highly functional features that made it such a well–loved light when it debuted. To commemorate the centenary of Dahl’s birth in 1916, a new version of the Birdy table lamp was produced in a numbered limited-edition series in the color Marsala.
The Say My Name lamp is mouth-blown Venetian glass, made in Italy. Although the skill required to transform such a large mass of molten material into a hollow sphere could only be found with the master glassblowers of Murano, the design is Nordic to its very core, reflecting the sensibilities of its designers Morten & Jonas. The subtle colors in the glass reflect the hues of the Nordic night sky, the light of the fjords and the smooth surface of calm water.
Selected from among 130 entries, Mads Sætter-Lassen’s design for the Buddy table lamp won Northern’s Student Design Award in 2015. A student at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Sætter-Lassen describes Buddy as “the little helper everyone needs.” The multi-directional shade—available in matt finishes of dark gray, off-white, green and Marsala—allows the beam to be directed towards the area where light is needed.
Secto Design at ICFF
Secto Design will be exhibiting in booth 1232 with new products on view, including the Varsi 1000, a sassy accessory that gives those who need a wall light the flexibility to turn the Finnish manufacturer’s pendants into wall-worthy equals. The adjustable suspension arm, designed by Seppo Koho, allows the Secto pendants to float from the wall and rotate 180 degrees. Made of powder-coated steel in a black or white finish, the Varsi 1000 mounts to the wall with a steel plate. It is a supportive companion for the Secto 4200, Secto 4201, Octo 4240, Victo 4250, Puncto 4203 and Kontro 6000.
So now you can see why we are psyched to be sharing new products with designers, architects and tastemakers during these important events. Hope to see you in the design world somewhere during the next two weeks!
