The XM Wall

In those rare moments when you want your style statements to be almost indiscernible, the XM wall fixture designed by Joel Karlsson speaks an understated language. The base is white-painted aluminum and the expanded metal body is topped with a matte opal glass shade. For stronger statements, the metal body is also available in white, black and copper. The XM Wall is included in our ECCO Collection of Performance-Driven Office + Retail Lighting. ECCO, an acronym for [E]nergy-efficient, [C]ompliant for [C]ommercial [O]rnamentation, is a collection of light fixtures built to enhance the architectural attributes of commercial, office or retail settings.Request a Quote

Industrial designer Joel Karlsson, born in Gothenburg, studied interior design and furniture design at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm, and received a degree in architecture at the Royal Technical University in Stockholm. He also studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York. Once he completed his degrees, Karlsson worked as an assistant to Konstantin Grcic in Munich, then became a partner at Krook & Tjäder Design in Gothenburg, which he founded with Niclas Jernström.

Their focus at Krook & Tjäder Design is on objects linked to architecture, furniture and lighting. Karlsson, the design director, has collaborated with a number of Swedish manufacturers, including Karl Andersson & Söner, Mitab and Örsjö Lighting. Global Lighting collaborator Zero Interior Lighting, also a Swedish company, produced Karlsson’s XM wall light fixture, which is included in our ECCO Collection. Krook & Tjäder’s motto is “form follows research,” a caveat that has each partner wearing hats as varied as producer, designer, architect and consumer. Along with managing his thriving practice, Karlsson teaches at Växjö University.
