The Via Lattea Floor Lamp

Via Lattea means “Milky Way” in Italian, a clever moniker for this bucket-like floor lamp made of natural concrete. Springing from the minds of Stefano Bizzarri and Claudio Cinti of the Bizzarri Design Studio, this stalwart sentinel pushes its illumination upward to emit pools of light as milky as its name implies.

The studio of Bizzarri Design Associates is based in Pesaro, Italy. Established in 1995, the main goal of the collaboration between Stefano Bizzarri and Claudio Cinti has, from the start, been a continual experimentation in innovative materials and methods using traditional manufacturing models. The duo’s client list includes some of Italy’s finest brands, including Gasparucci Contract, Ideal Marmi Italia, Pedini, I Conci Srl, Cattelan, Gardesa, Edilcuoghi, Cotto Impruneta, Palazzetti and Karman Lighting, which Global Lighting distributes in the North American marketplace.

Recent design and architectural projects have included showrooms, homes and hotels in Italy, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Russia. But the company doesn’t stop there—they have a hand in furniture design and other home products for the consumer and contract markets, as well as carry out efforts to brand entities. From product presentations to corporate identity, this well-rounded creative team understands all aspects of design. A voracious appetite for working with new materials has given them experience with rattan, wicker, wood, stone, metal, glass and porcelain. You will also find a love of experimentation with shapes in the design studio’s point of view, which is as paradoxical as the duo’s outlook that they describe as innovative but balanced. Global Lighting brings Bizzarri’s Birdy pendants to the United States and Canada.
