Adam Hoets, the founder and creative director of Willowlamp, has always been inspired by nature’s sculptural forms, and his creations are imbued with the beauty he sees everywhere. He is laser focused when designing each fixture, an attentiveness that results in an array of beautiful products. His outlook combines aesthetics, technical detailing, and a consistent quality as he is bringing the most breath-taking light fixtures imbued with subtle elegance to life. Adam graduated as an architect from the University of Cape Town in 2000 and later specialized in designing sustainable buildings with sculptural forms that were harmoniously integrated into their surroundings. Adam lives and works on the slopes of Table Mountain in Cape Town. His founding of Willowlamp is the current chapter in his journey as an artist and designer.

The design awards Hoets and his company have received illustrate his creative vivacity and the quality that his products exude. The 2019 awards he has received include two LIT Awards and two D’Ark Awards. Earlier awards include a Guild Foundation Award, a 100% Design Award for Best Lighting, a SABS design excellence award, and three Elle Décor awards for lighting designer of the year (in 2006 and 2007) and overall designer of the year. Hoets has exhibited his designs at Euroluce (within Salone del Mobile) in Milan, Design Days Dubai, 100% Design in Johannesburg and London, Light Junction in London, Art Basel, ICFF in New York City, Ambiente in Frankfurt, and Maison et Objet in Paris. Willowlamp was also involved in the “Global Africa Project” produced by the Museum of Arts & Design in New York City in 2010. As the lead designer for Willowlamp, he is the driving force behind the company’s bespoke program.
