Global Lighting tastemaker Stephan Jones says he takes in design like he takes in a good book: that would be “with a double espresso and a fond appreciation for the natural progression of a story.” And what tales his designs tell! Narratives of sophistication and classicism roll off his psyche like he was born to be decorating cultivated spaces (as we can see he was)!
Meet Stephan Jones of Stephan Jones Interiors
We’re not the only ones inspired to wax poetic about this designer and his talented team. The Style Saloniste calls the firm an exciting talent on the San Francisco design scene, noting the stir generated by the study they designed for the San Francisco Decorator Showhouse. “The room hummed with harmony, tranquility and invention,” the editors wrote. Stephan studied both history and painting in college; and after receiving a degree in the former from The American University; he continued his education by concentrating on the latter, accentuating his painterly studies with coursework in interiors at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Both history and art figure in his review of the Le Trulle Grand pendant, designed by Edmondo Testaguezza for Karman in our Stratos Collection, which he chose as his favorite fixture. “I love this pendant fixture as it reminds me of a modern version of a Giacometti sculpture with its bold white color mixed with the drama in its form,” he said. “As simple as it is, either in sets or alone, it becomes a focal point and a sculptural statement without becoming too distracting. It’s gratifying when a light can also function as a subtle art piece.”
The founding of his eponymous firm, based in Los Angeles, comes on the heels of 20 years in the industry; but he’s not just California dreaming, as he has a portfolio that spans from coast to coasts. He calls himself an interiors mixologist because he creates spaces by blending found ingredients—from rough to polished, classic to contemporary, and bold to subtle. He claims he simply stirs and watches it all come together, oftentimes his art being a powerful ingredient in the recipe. We’d like to be the first to say “Cheers!” to our newest tastemaker for his curatorial rigor, a passion we share with him wholeheartedly!
