The Montone: a Modern Dream

Sarah Sarna

Today our Blogger’s Choice series has a fresh addition. We’re thrilled to have New York City-based interior designer Sarah Sarna share a Global Lighting fixture which truly struck a chord with her. In her design practice, Sarah draws upon her passion for global affairs to curate interiors infused with Caribbean, French, and Indian influences—a synthesis of her studies and travels. Ms. Sarna is also the founder of “Live The Life You Dream About,” a lifestyle blog with a focus on interiors, fashion, style, New York, and on pursing and living your dream. In all she does, Sarah Sarna draws far-flung inspiration from the natural environment, history, literature, fine art, film, and fashion as she collaborates with her clients to execute an aesthetic that is layered, evocative, and that feels like home.

“So much of a great space lies in the lighting: what is illuminated, where there are shadows, and how the light fixtures themselves enhance the overall decor,” shares Sarah. “As soon as I saw Jacco Maris’ Montone I recognized it as a piece I would love for a client as well as in my own home.”

Sarah tells you why in her own words:

“The beauty of this pendant is that it will make as much of a sophisticated statement in an entry as it will suspended over a dining table. And because each Montone is made by hand in Holland, the finish, shape, size, and amount of light can all be customized so that each is one-of-a-kind.” The finish pictured in the image above is “a very glamorous high-gloss stainless steel,” in Sarah’s words, “but look at all of the other gorgeous finishes! The brushed brass would be stunning as well.

The Montone Collection by Jacco Maris Design is available via Global Lighting as a hanging lamp, ceiling lamp, wall lamp, standing lamp or table lamp. All of the pieces in the collection have a high voltage halogen light source to accommodate a dimmer. When I look at the Montone, I visualize it the in type of elegant interior my clients and I adore. I created a tear sheet of sorts for it: this (image above) is exactly how I would introduce the fixture in a design meeting. In isolation a client might voice concern that the pendant is too modern. In a classical setting such as this one, however, we see that it is absolutely perfect!”
