New York, NY, Design/Architecture Photographer & Author
Michael Biondo is a New York- and Connecticut-based photographer whose keen interest in all types of design has fueled a highly creative and successful career photographing iconic architecture and interiors. Though fashion captured Biondo’s fascination early on and built his reputation as a talented photographer, he was continually drawn into the worlds of architecture and design—in no small measure due to the fact he shoots in and around some of the most famous early modernism in the United States.
Biondo has worked with some of the most talented individuals in the worlds of publishing, fashion and architecture, and with some of the most visionary brands during his career. His client list reads like a who’s who of design and fashion, including Design Within Reach, Giorgio Armani, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Valentino, W magazine, Elle magazine, Interview magazine and Sony Music. He is a graduate of Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute, where he studied photography and graphic design, and his book credits are appearing with greater frequency: a monograph appeared in late 2013 and a cultural/architectural title is on the horizon for the third quarter 2014. The former, a survey of architect Allan Greenberg’s work titled Allan Greenberg Classical Architect, features his photographs on the cover and within the inner pages. The book was released by Rizzoli in October of 2013.
The latter is the result of a passion for the iconic work of the midcentury modern architects who built in and around New Canaan, Connecticut—an enclave of one of the most significant collections of these architectural gems in the United States, including Philip Johnson’s Glass House. He is the photographer and contributing author of a book titled Midcentury Houses Today published by The Monacelli Press in October of 2014, which Architectural Digest listed it as one of the Best Architecture & Design Books of 2015. Imagine how thrilled we were when Biondo agreed to be one of Global Lighting’s tastemakers! He chose the B.lux Tree Series table lamp with a black exterior as his favorite amongst our offerings.
