You can feel the masculinity exude from many of the products, as well as the art, that Arik Levy creates. With names like Fusion, Stone and Totem, his sculptures command attention. So do the products the designer-cum-filmmaker, -artist, -photographer creates at a healthy clip. With an attitude that embodies the caveat “creation is an uncontrolled muscle,” is it any surprise he has crafted a knockout presence for himself on the worldwide stage?
Born in Tel-Aviv in 1963, he closed up his graphic design studio/surfboard shop at the age of 27 and headed for Europe, graduating from Switzerland’s Art Center Europe with an industrial design degree in 1991. Levy is now based in Paris, but his designs, which appeal to an international audience of style-seekers, are created for forward-thinking manufacturers across country and continental borders. As an artist, he has exhibited in galleries and fairs far and near, and is included in the permanent collections of a host of prestigious international museums.
Levy’s talents are not limited to the three-dimensional design world, as he has impacted corporate identity through his graphic design and packaging projects for a number of international brands. His hunger for and unwavering desire to explore innovation keep him on the front edge of the creative wave that has grown to a tsunami in this technological age. His comfort with experimentation gives him an edge in a teeming pool of talent he continues to rise above. Proving this ascendancy is his client list, which reads like a who’s who of contemporary design’s A-listers. These include but are not limited to Vitra, Ligen-Roset, Gaia & Gino, L’Oréal, Lanvin, Boucheron, Baccarat, Galeries Lafayette, Forestier and Bernhardt Design. Given that one of his most heartfelt declarations is, “The world is about people, not objects," we at Global Lighting are excited to bring Levy’s avant-garde designs and point of view to the North American marketplace through our Stratos Collection. (And we couldn't agree more!)
