Designer

A design-driven future is how Forestier describes its current trajectory, one that reaches far into the Parisian past given that its original designs were based upon the botanical arts and conceived with lightweight metal wire. Seeing that the time had come to introduce botanical designs into the home, it was the company’s founder, Bernard Forestier, who led the charge of weaving wire into beautiful symmetries to create the delicately refined style of lighting he gathered into the Fil De Fer offerings. That was then, 1992; now, even though many of their avant-garde designs are made of wire, a fair number of their new releases have moved beyond the material. A hallmark of Forestier’s design focus is how light is reflected, an emphasis that has changed little over the past three decades as the company has concentrated its efforts to convey the poetics of design in every product it designs.

Forestier collaborates with some of design’s greatest names—from Arik Levy, Sebastian Bergne, Laurence Brabant, Normal Studio, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrence and Emmanuel Gallina, to design duos Christian Ghion and Basile Huez, and Nicolas Daul and Julien Demanche. From an original topiary, which ignited a spark in Forestier’s passion for French-style gardens, the company’s leanings have always been about working materials into forms of aesthetic gracefulness. That did not change through the eras overseen by Bernard or Hélène Forestier, nor has it faltered since the latter passed the torch to Jean Dominique Leze, who has brought the Paris-based studio award-winning acclaim. It is a commitment to quality and a desire to push into new design territory that make us at Global Lighting delighted to include their Tibet and Opium pendants and table lamps in our Stratos Collection for North America.
