Make like a captain of industry and tap the Evergreen pendant for that spot in any room that could use a bit of an edge. The shade of the fixture, designed by Jens Praet and Vibeke Skar, comes in either mouth-blown glass or metal in bronze, black and copper finishes, the sandblasted exterior of the glass version treated to just enough roughing it up to make it oh so unassuming.

Belgian Jens Praet is the epitome of the budding international design star. Born in 1984, he studied in both The Netherlands and Italy before deciding to stay in the latter, opening his design studio in 2007 near Florence, where he works and experiments on a variety of new products. Praet’s design is characterized by a passion for everyday objects and materials, as well as the combination of old and new. He finds inspiration in unexpected details, which he sees as starting points in the design process. Creations from Studio Jens Praet have been exhibited during many design events and featured in design publications and newspapers around the world. His avant-garde take on design makes him a popular programming highlight at design fairs. His Shredded Ware collection of furniture, in a limited edition of 12 and fashioned from shredded Elle Décor magazines, made for a popular workshop at Design Days Dubai in 2012, when he created a number of pieces on the premises. This was an encore of sorts, his reputation of transforming trash into usable objects set when he rocketed onto the design scene in 2008 at the Salone del Mobile with his One Day Paper Waste, a table made of shredded magazines in collaboration with Droog Design.
Norwegian designer Vibeke Skar, who was born in 1983, also studied in Italy. Returning to her home country, she worked at Frost Produkt while attending The Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Since completing her Masters degree in 2009, she has worked independently through her eponymous Studio Vibeke Skar. Her strengths lie within her distinctive choice of form and detail, both of which are inspired by Norwegian history, culture and nature. The confluence of these results in products that she believes people can personally relate to. Her products have been featured in a number of major Norwegian design magazines and newspapers, and her contemporary design collection is generating increasing interest on the international design scene, which is no wonder given she is dexterously working in a range of materials from porcelain and glass to copper and aluminum. We at Global Lighting are glad these two talented designers collaborated to create the Evergreen pendant for Northern Lighting, which we bring to North America exclusively in our Stratos Collection. It's heartening to see such successful youthful talent explode upon the world stage!
The Evergreen Pendant in the Stratos Collection caught my eye because I currently I love everything copper. I feel like it’s an under-showcased metallic, typically taking a third seat to gold and silver. Copper has a beautiful rustic, vintage element, while managing to remain elegant and sophisticated. Used as the material for this pendant lamp, it makes the fixture perfect for so many settings—I can see it in a modern kitchen as easily as in a cozy library.
