The Disca T Table Lamp

Mimicking the shape of a far-off star, the Disca T table lamp is a shining apparition that brings celestial beauty into a space. Designed by Alberto Nason, the Disca table lamp is available with green, milky white or clear lava glass shades that balance on a wood base like a spinning top that is frozen in motion. The quality of the glass is exceptional, the linear striations lending these fixtures added texture and personality, which is challenging to achieve with glass. We also offer the Disca in small and large pendants.

Designer

After finishing his undergraduate studies, Alberto Nason took three years to work in the London graphic design studio Option One. The native of Venice then attended the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, a renowned institution from which he obtained a diploma in Industrial Design in 1996. Germany called next; his year-long stint with the design studio of Eckart and Barski near Frankfurt brought him experience in the creative and technical areas of design.

This knowledge led to a collaboration with the studio of architect Michele De Lucchi in the role of designer. Here he contributed to the development and the planning of design objects. In 2001, Nason created "first laboratory" in which the designer dedicated himself to the search for new techniques working in glass. He developed a thesis this same year in collaboration with his professor at the European Institute of Design, Pietro Micheli, who concentrates his teaching toward design thinking, strategic design and new product development.

The range of materials in Nason’s portfolio is broad, each one used with a sophisticated focus on experimentation. Based in Milan, he collaborates with a list of lauded companies that include Artemide, Domodinamica, Produzione Privata, AVMazzega, Arnolfo Di Cambio, Sforzin, Primo Laboratorio, Riva 1920, Sadi, Vnason&C, Parise vetro and Hind Rabii. His ethereal Disca pendants for this Belgian-based company is included in the Global Lighting offerings.

Many of his lighting designs have a fluidity that belies the materials they are made from, a slight-of-hand we’ve seen the Italians do quite often. And he is a master at creating fixtures that pepper surrounding surfaces with textural patterns. Nason’s motto, “Do small things with great love,” proves his passion, though we will point out that designing such sophisticated lighting is no small feat.
