Mark Braun has had his own design studio in Berlin since 2006, which he founded after completing his industrial design studies at the FHP University of Applied Sciences Potsdam that same year. He has also studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and at the University of Art and Design in Halle, so its no wonder the list of awards he has racked up is a mile long—from Design Plus Awards and the Form Preis for his Tendence-featured product at Messe Frankfrut to several Design Report Awards and an Interior Innovation Award from IMM Cologne.

He was also nominated for a coveted Design Miami/ Basel Designers of the Future Award. This young designer’s portfolio (he was born in 1975) includes projects for varied companies, including Authentics, J+L Lobmeyr, Pillips de Pury and Wallpaper. One of his newest projects is a luxury timepiece for Nomos Glashuette called Metro; the watch and a “making of” video went on view in July 2014 in the company’s flagship store in Zurich.

He designed the Bell pendant for Northern, which we at Global Lighting have tapped for our Stratos Collection. Explaining his strategy, Braun says, “I want to design things so that they seem familiar to people, even though they are new.” This is definitely how the Bell pendant struck us, and we are thrilled to bring it exclusively to the North American marketplace. The light fixture resonated with the media as well, as it was nominated for one of Bo Bedre magazine’s Design Awards in 2012.
